A Place where Everyone is Welcome
All are Welcome Here!
The people who come here say it feels like a big family. You can relax and be yourself and know that you will always be welcome. Every entrance and room in our building is ADA accessible. So, if you're a new mom with a stroller or an old man using a cane, you can easily come into our building.
Our members include young families, singles, college students, adults and senior citizens. We have people who work in factories and trades, farmers, engineers and managers. We have members who teach in the local schools or work at the University of Northern Iowa and Hawkeye Community College. We have members with different abilities and viewpoints.
We are a community of faith that welcomes all who trust in Jesus Christ. For all our differences, we try to practice the law that Jesus gave us in the great commandment and unconditionally love everyone.
"Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
Our worship style is a reflection of who we are and what we believe. We include traditional and contemporary music in our worship services. We have a Praise Band for those up-beat new songs and a pipe organ for the old reliable hymns. The worship service is accompanied by PowerPoint slides that include the text for songs & hymns, responses, prayers and illustrations of scripture readings and sermon topics.
At First Presbyterian Church we partake in the sacrament of communion on the first Sunday of each month. We have an open communion table and invite anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their savior to join us.
